Patenting LENR

Andrea Rossi has recently amended his patent application in the U.S.  This comes a few months after the US Patent and Trademark Office issued a “non-final rejection” of Andrea Rossi’s patent for the following stated reasons:
“The specification is objected to as inoperable. Specifically there is no evidence in the corpus of nuclear science to substantiate the claim that nickel will spontaneously ionize hydrogen gas and thereafter “absorb” the resulting proton…”
Brillouin has a patent in China and has filed with U.S., EU, Japan and India. India reportedly slapped a secrecy order on their application.  Like the U.S., Japan is taking a firm stance and requiring reliable, independent proof.
George Miley has been granted a patent on LENR-related technology.  Mitsubishi has also been granted a patent for a nuclide transmutation device and nuclide transmutation method.

China in the News

China has been in the news recently as poising itself to be an innovator in the alternative energy sector.  As part of a policy shift, the Chinese government is implementing carbon trading, capping energy consumption, resource taxes, new emissions controls and regional coal consumption caps.
Internet rumors have Cherokee Investment Partners, with multiple Chinese connections, and their subsidiary Industrial Heat LLC, as the possible U.S. partner working with Andrea Rossi and his E-Cat technology.
Brillouin Energy, whom has a LENR patent in China, recently signed a licensing agreement with a firm in South Korea.  Perhaps the Pacific Rim and China are embracing the possibilities of LENR and may lead the way in developing this technology.

Duetron Importance in LENR Reactions

In an interesting paper by Magdi Ragheb, the author discusses the various mechanisms whereby deuteron disintegration in condensed matter through photonuclear and wave polarization reactions aid in the source of neutrons leading to the apparent transmutations being proffered as the source of anomalous heat in LENR events.
The author relies heavily on the Oppenheimer–Phillips process or strip reaction which is a type of deuteron-induced nuclear reaction. In this process the neutron half of an energetic deuteron (a stable isotope of hydrogen with one proton and one neutron) fuses with a target nucleus, transmuting the target to a heavier isotope while ejecting a proton.

Brillouin Presentation

Bob George, CEO, and Robert Godes, President and CTO of Brillouin Energy Corporation, the company in Berkeley California working on their LENR technology with Stanford Research Institute gave a nice interview on the SmartScarecrow show.
Brillouin is an impressive company with a working CECR theory and two products in development. The WET Boiler (Water Electrolytic Tube) is being done at their lab in Berkeley and the HHT (Hydrogen Hot Tube) is being worked on at SRI International in Menlo Park.
Google has allegedly visited their laboratory.  What this means remains to be seen as Brillouin admits it is still a year or more from commercial licensing to manufacturers.

Controlling the Reaction

The single biggest hurdle to the acceptance of LENR fka Cold Fusion is control of the reaction.  There is little doubt in the learned scientific community that the anomalous and excess heat generated by the unidentified reaction is real.  This has been proven thousands of times in the past two decades.
Much to the dismay of the pioneering Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann (whom took this to his grave), the lack of control destroyed their careers and gave Cold Fusion a permanent black eye.  Early experiments show that excess heat is somehow released by the absorption of deuterium in a palladium lattice, but their crude experiments were not controllable and virtually impossible to reproduce by others.  Their work was dismayed as pseudoscience and all but killed further funding for research.
Twenty plus years later, the entrepreneurs now seem to have the upper hand.  While the research dollars disappeared, experiments continued quietly in small labs across the globe.  There are a handful of companies actively working to bring a LENR device to market.  Again, control is the key issue if one believes Rossi, Brillouin, Blacklight and Defkalion all have devices which produce excess heat.
Brillouin Energy Corporation seems especially in tune with the issue.  Its founder, Robert Godes, has been working for many years to solve the control issue.  His innovations apparently allows Brillouin a controlled and predictable output and a working theory they call a Controlled Electron Capture Reaction.  Their theory and stability has generated millions of dollars in funding and a relationship with the Standford Research Institute.

Further developments in control will spur more funding and more research.  As the phenomenon is more fully understood, a solid reproducible reaction will be available to everyone.

Nuclear Active Environment

I like Dr. Edmund Storms and I believe him to be one of the most credible and visionary men in the field of LENR research.  He has been there from the beginning, he is patient, brilliant and realizes the scientific method will eventually solve the mysteries behind Cold Fusion.

Storms 3-Step Model
1. The nuclear active environment NAE is formed.
2. The NAE is populated with hydrogen and electrons.
3. Resonance initiates the nuclear mechanisms that cause fusion.

The energy to start this reaction may be introduced as a Brillouin Energy Q-pulse or an Energetics Superwave, or perhaps, as a Letts laser-light. Simply heating the cell like Cellani’s nickel wire reactor may be enough too.

CECR: Controlled Electron Capture Reaction

LENR, LANR, CANR, CECR … the list of acronyms for theories describing the “cold fusion” phenomena continues to grow as does the number of players hoping to capitalize on the growing awareness of low energy nuclear reactions.
As described below, Robert E. Godes and Brillouin Energy Corporation is using the hydrogen in ordinary water to stimulate an exothermic nuclear process that produces no hazardous waste. The process stimulates a Controlled Electron Capture Reaction (CECR) in a catalyst which creates low energy neutrons which generates heat as they are captured, building heavier elements. Brillouin is hoping to license this technology in the near future.
